June Hersh

June Hersh is the author of five books, four of which focus on food. Her first Recipes Remembered, a Celebration of Survival, now in its 7th printing, is a compendium of stories and recipes gathered from her personal interviews with more than 150 Holocaust survivors. The book, written in association with the Museum of Jewish Heritage, is a charitable endeavor where all proceeds benefit Holocaust-related organizations or offset costs for future printings, with the hope that the book is never out of circulation. Subsequent to that she wrote The Kosher Carnivore, edited Still Here, Inspiration from Survivors and Liberators of the Holocaust, and Yoghurt a Global History. Her latest book is Iconic New York Jewish Food, a History, and Guide with Recipes. This book returns June to her passion for preserving food memory and sharing the stories of Jewish immigrants as they influenced and imprinted their cuisine on the foodways of this country. From pickles to pastrami, the book explores the crave-worthy, binge-able bites we cannot get enough of. A portion of her proceeds helps feed New York's hungry, through The Met Council. June writes for Westchester Magazine, and various food blogs with a focus on Jewish food and offers book talks and cooking demos. Her goal is to help readers Eat Well- Do Good through the intersection of food and tzedakah.
