While on the college campus she was very active and volunteered her time with various youth organizations including the King-Chavez- Parks Program, The summer Incentive Program and worked closely with organizations like The Black Student Union and Meals on Wheels.

While working for a University for some time, Mrs. Walker visited a multitude of Detroit Public High schools and developed relationships with teachers and students alike. After speaking with Counselors, and volunteering her time with Winning Futures; A non-profit that works directly with high schools and brings life skills curriculum straight to the classroom, she saw a need in the community for a mentoring program for girls and partnered with the Friends of the Children’s Museum of Detroit to create The Urban Rose Foundation. Since 2012, The Urban Rose Foundation has been able to give over $5000 away in stipends to young girls going to school in the fall and assist in developing mentorship opportunities within the community. The Urban Rose Foundation was able to Partner with Wayne State University and Marygrove College to implement programming geared toward young women between the ages of 12-18.
