John Clark McCall Jr

John Clark McCall, Jr. was born in the nation's onion capital, Vidalia, Georgia in 1949. Like his father, John Clark McCall, he recieved a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and has contributed to many books and magazines regarding theatre and theatre organs, architecture and classic cars. In the early 1970's he became very active in the "Save the Fox" movement in Atlanta, ultimately publishing a monograph "Atlanta Fox Album: Mecca at Peachtree Street" in 1975. "Album" raised over $70,000 for the "Save the Fox" effort.

He was featured with such notables as Kenny Rodgers, Jeff Foxworthy, and Mitzi Gaynor in Georgia Public Broadcasting's "The Fabulous Fox" video production. As a theatre organist he has been featured with Mickey Rooney, President and First Lady Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, TCM's Robert Osborne, and "Gone With the Wind's" Ann Rutherford. He was also reunited with "Scout"--Mary Badham of the film, "To Kill a Mockingbird" after they met at a dance at Camp Merrie Woode many decades previous.

McCall moved from Vidalia to Moultrie, Georgia in 1960--just prior to the construction of the elegant "Palazzo" featured in his book, "Twice Told Tales of a Southern Palazzo." After working in Atlanta and completing a Master's degree at Georgia State University, McCall went to Winthrop University where he served as its first Director of Campus Planning and Design and later, as an Assistant Professor of Interior Design. During his time at Winthrop, McCall garnered several awards from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), including the "Dora Brahms Award for Historic Preservation." He was also bestowed the "Award for Lifetime Achievement" by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society.

His newest writing endeavors have been books on the 1955-56 Packard and Clippers; and the Lincoln Mark VI and companion Town Cars of 1980-89. They are the first two books to ever be published solely about those specific model years. A new volume on Imperial will follow soon in a unique format focused on the 26 examples of that marque he has owned. McCall is no stranger to the automotive press, having articles published in the "Packard Cormorant," The "Kaiser-Frazer Owners Club International Quarterly," and "The WPC (Chrysler) News," among numerous others.
