Learn More about Jim Gillen at yogacalm.org
Jim Gillen ERYT-500, has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 40 years, is the Co-founder of Yoga Calm for Children and is the Director of Still Moving Yoga in Portland, Oregon.
Jim has been supporting the health and development of youth for decades through his work with Yoga Calm, the National Science Foundation youth environmental education programs and as an instructor with the National Sports Center for the Disabled. He was also a key player in several multi-million dollar campaigns to protect Oregon State Parks and Portland's parks and natural areas.
His current passion - of teaching the yoga he had loved since his early teens - came to fruition when he opened his own studio, Still Moving Yoga, in 1998. It was also then that he and his wife Lynea starting teaching yoga at her elementary school behavior classroom and developed the Yoga Calm curriculum that would later be taught to tens of thousands of classroom teachers and over 250,000 youth.
In addition to teaching Yoga Calm's college-accredited courses with Lynea, Jim is also the award-winning author of Yoga Calm for Children, the #1 seller for teaching yoga in public schools, as well as a publisher and video producer through their media company, Three Pebble Press (threepebblepress.com).
Jim also developed the Yoga Calm Certification program, 14 college courses in children's health and wellness, and an online learning center that supports students from around the world.
A self-described "big picture person," Jim thrives on seeing the connections among disparate fields and creatively solving problems with holistic, integrated solutions. Jim enjoys his free time chasing his granddaughter on her bike and teaching her about birds and gardening.
