Simone Mansell Broome was born in West Wales. After many years in England she returned to Wales in 2007, where she now lives in rural Carmarthenshire.
The written and the spoken word have always enthralled her. She has written and performed poetry since 2004 all over the UK and on radio. She has been included in lots of anthologies, been placed in(or won) several competitions and has written commissioned poems for ITV.
Two self-published slim volumes of poems were followed by ‘Juice of the Lemon’, 2008, and ‘Cardiff Bay Lunch’, 2010. Then came a publishing pause while she focussed on the family wedding business.
The business downturn of the pandemic had a creative upside for Simone. She kept a blog – www.locklites.co.uk – during the lockdowns, which was converted into an ebook, ‘A Year of Going Nowhere’, in March 2021, swiftly followed by another ebook, ‘Getting Off Lightly’, a slim volume of poems to be read aloud.
In June 2021, Simone’s first children’s book was released – ‘Valletta and the Year of Changes’, beautifully illustrated by Cerys Susannah Rees.
This chapter book introduces the Stowaway clan of mice, whose normal activities have been curtailed in this most unusual of years. Valletta and her family face challenges and frustrations but the year has its lighter moments too. Valletta and her family are proving to be totally absorbing to Simone, who is working on the second of the Stowaways’ adventures…They've now gained a LoveReading4Kids sticker too! Simone has just produced a small range of 3 'Christmouse' cards with greetings & mousey characters by Simone & pictures by Cerys again!
