Zaro Weil

Zaro Weil has been an actor, dancer, playwright, poet, historian, theatre director, educator and publisher. She co-founded a theatre dance company for children in Saint Louis, Missouri – Metro Theater Circus (now Metro Theater Company). For over 10 years she wrote, directed, performed and taught in schools and universities throughout America, including several MTC guest stints at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC. She claims to have played every animal that ever existed, and some that didn’t. MTC (still going strong) won many awards under Zaro’s leadership, including the American Theater Association’s Winifred Ward prize for the Best Children’s Theater Company in America. Zaro also taught drama and dance in the Master of Arts teaching program at Webster University.

Zaro’s first widely praised collection of poems, 'Mud, Moon and Me', was published by Orchard Books in the UK and Houghton Mifflin in the USA.

Zaro's has had 5 books published since 2018 by Troika Books; FIRECRACKERS, SPOT GUEVARA HERO DOG, CHERRY MOON, POLKA DOT POEMS and WHEN POEMS FALL FROM THE SKY in association with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

'Cherry Moon' illustrated by Junli Song won the prestigious CLiPPA Poetry Award in 2020.
