Roger S. Duncan is a professional photographer and author based in Bath, Maine. He grew up in Concord, Ma. and Newagen, Maine.
He is the co-author of The Cruising Guide to the New England Coast, known for some sailors as "the Bible" of New England's harbors and waterways. In this role, Roger has sailed from Newfoundland to Cape Cod and also researched the Hudson River.
As a boy, he sailed much of Maine’s coast with his grandfather, Roger F. Duncan, becoming well-versed in traditional sailing navigation and coastal history. In the 1990s, Roger did independent research for the 11th edition of The Guide Downeast and in New Brunswick. For the 12th edition, published in 2002, Roger joined his father, Robert, and cousins Paul and Wallace Fenn in taking over The Guide from his grandfather, author since the 1960 edition.
Roger has a BA in Studio Art from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI and studied photojournalism at the Missouri School of Journalism. He is also a Registered Maine Guide.
Since 2000, he has been a U.S. Navy Reserve Photographer. He deployed to Africa in 2006 with Combat Camera. In 2010, he advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
With Martina Morrow Duncan, a Yarmouth native, Roger has a young daughter, Julianna.
