Susan A. Hyatt

Susan Hyatt is the founder and CEO of CORE THOUGHT, a private consulting and training company that provides companies with ideas and tools for actively managing their community impacts and giving strategies. She is the four-time award-winning author of Strategy for Good: Business Giving Strategies for the 21st Century. Sue specializes in social program development and CSR company and social impact metrics and evaluation. She also conducts community engagement audits, facilitates strategic planning to integrate community and business goals, and designs unique all-win community engagement initiatives.

Leveraging 20 years of experience in corporate social responsibility, business philanthropy, organizational development, and nonprofit sustainability, resource development and tri-sector partnerships, Sue helps clients transform their good intentions into real impact in their communities and on their bottom line. Her clients have included CARE, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Pathfinder International, Heifer International, the US Agency for International Development, and dozens of businesses and local, state, and national agencies.

Sue has worked extensively throughout the country and internationally with nonprofit organizations and government agencies delivering social impact programs to meet community needs. For seventeen years, she worked with AmeriCorps State and National, VISTA, NCCC, Learn and Serve America, and Senior Corps – Foster Grandparent, Senior Companion, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) programs funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) providing organization development and capacity building consulting, facilitation, curriculum design, and training. She has also served as the training and technical assistance manager for governor-appointed state service commissions in a nine-state region tasked with overseeing AmeriCorps programming and promoting cross-sector collaboration using service as a strategy to address local issues. She has created state and national training programs for business, nonprofit, and agency staff and board members on topics such as sustainability, leadership, board development, social impact, and performance measurement and program evaluation, and strategic public-private partnerships.

Sue holds a Master’s degree in Community/Public Health Nutrition with a specialization in international development from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She completed her PhD work in Sociology at Colorado State University in social change/organization development. She was a Fulbright Scholar to the Sociology Department at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and an AAAS Science, Engineering and Diplomacy Postdoctoral Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, DC. Susan lives in Denver, Colorado and proudly drives a Prius.

Sue is donating a portion of the sale of each book to the most influential international nonprofit organizations working to make a difference in the world by strengthening socially and environmentally responsible business practices including Social Venture Partners International, Net Impact, and 1% for the Planet. She travels widely as a trainer, keynote speaker, and avid volunteer in global service projects.
