Randye J. Semple

Randye J. Semple, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, CA.

Her research and clinical interests are in the application of child and adolescent mindfulness to psychological health and well-being in both clinical and school settings. Her work in the area of mindfulness with youth has been at the forefront of international interest in mindfulness-based therapies in mental health care for more than a decade. She presents on this topic at local, national, and international professional conferences; and through workshops, consulting, invited lectures, and other training opportunities.

Dr. Semple is the lead developer of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Children (MBCT-C), which is an evidence-based group psychotherapy for children ages 8 to 13. This engaging and innovative clinical program is now being researched and implemented worldwide. She is co-author of the book Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Anxious Children. Her second book, co-authored with Christopher Willard, is available for pre-order and will be published in July 2019. Dr. Semple has also authored over 40 scientific journal articles, book chapters, and other professional publications. Dr. Semple serves on the steering committee for Mindful USC and the research committee of the American Mindfulness Research Association. She is co-Principal Investigator of the USC Center for Mindfulness Science. She is past-President of the Mindfulness and Acceptance special interest group of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and was Associate Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Mindfulness. She has also served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Semple received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University and is licensed to practice in New York and California.
