Michael Allen’s new book, "The personal history of Charles Dickens", is the culmination of many years research. A librarian all his life, his first book, "Charles Dickens’ childhood", was published in 1988 and is now available only as an ebook, from Palgrave Macmillan, ref no 9781349190904. "An English Lady in Paris" followed in 2006 and "Charles Dickens and the Blacking Factory" in 2011. He also contributed to the "Oxford Reader's Companion to Dickens" (1999, 2000 and 2011) and Wiley's "Companion to Charles Dickens" (2007; 2nd edition due soon).
