It's crap examining the author's life. Here is Yeats on this: "I've gone to a lot of trouble to get these lines into verse." So curiosity should aim its inquisition at the lines themselves, not some raw biographical spill the author heats up to glamorize himself. But is it fun to explore a work's ancestry by naming the gods who inspired it?
Yes. Harper Lee, Franklin W. Dixon, John Keats, Burt Kozloff, Richard Eberhardt, Jackson Browne, James M. Cain, W.H. Auden, R. Crumb, The Mecury, Gentleman's Quarterly, Mercedes Manual 1964 600D, and the Fan Man have poisoned Chick's mind with unusual thoughts.
