J Michael Cleverley

J. Michael Cleverley spent over thirty years as an American Foreign Service officer with the US Department of State. His hobby is writing. Now officially retired, he has taken temporary assignments with the State Department, taught university political science, economics and American history, and has authored several books.

Over his State Department career, Michael Cleverley was Deputy US Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Rome and Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassies in Athens and Helsinki. He also worked at the American missions in Pretoria, London, Milan. He holds a diploma from the National War College and degrees from the Harvard Kennedy School and Brigham Young University. Michael was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and speaks Finnish, Italian, and Greek. His wife was born in Finland and together they have four children.

His book "Born a Soldier" has also been published in Finland, Sweden, Greece, Poland, Norway, and Romania. It was a best seller in Finland and Sweden and was Runner Up for the Next Generation Indie Book Award in both the history and biography categories.
