Rodrigo Vidal Rojas

Architect (Universidad del Bío-Bío, Chile), Master in Social Sciences and Master in Urban Design (Université de Genève, Switzerland), PhD in Urbanism (Université de Lausanne, Switzerland), with more than 30 years of professional experience (architectural design and urban), academic and research in the areas of urban design, environmental sustainability of architecture, religious architecture and heritage preservation, and with 30 years of university work experience in the fields of management, planning and coordination institutional.

Among other academic activities, he has been an assistant professor at the Institut Universitaire d'Etudes du Développement (IUED) (today, Institute de Hautes Études Internationales et du Développement), at the University of Geneva, Switzerland (between 1993 and 1997); guest professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Seville, Spain and for the sociology and philosophy departments of the University of Havana, Cuba; professor of the doctoral course Four Approaches to Urban Space in Latin America of the Doctorate in American Studies, from the Institute for Advanced Studies (IDEA); co-manager and visiting professor of the Master's program in Regional Development and Environment, at the University of Valparaíso. Since 1997 he has been a full-time professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Santiago de Chile; in addition to peer evaluator of Postgraduate of the National Accreditation Commission, CNA, since 2011; ANID evaluator of FONDECYT and FONDEF research and development projects, since 2003 and coordinator of the V International Congress of Contemporary Religious Architecture, at the University of Santiago de Chile, from August 23 to 27, 2017.

He is an active researcher since 1999. He has published books and book chapters as well as articles in indexed journals and in magazines with national and international circulation. He is an external evaluator of various journals and has participated in various international congresses, courses and conferences since 1995. He has received on several occasions the university award for recognition of research and teaching; his book Fragmentation of the ville et nouveaux modes de composition urbaine, was selected and exhibited in the National Exhibition of the XIV Biennial of Architecture of Chile and his doctoral thesis was distinguished with the Faculty Award of the Université de Lausanne, in 2000.

Among other academic management activities at the University of Santiago de Chile, he has been a member of the Research Council; of the Restructuring Commission; the Infrastructure and Campus Commission; Research Coordinator at the School of Architecture; Academic Vice President; Director of the School of Architecture; founder, former Director and professor of the Integrated Master's Degree in Architectural Design (MIDA), member of the Graduate Program Evaluation Commission (CEPP), of the Academic Vice-Rector's Office, Academic Advisor in various periods, candidate for Rector of the University of Santiago de Chile, in 2018, and Rector of the same University since August 17, 2022.
