Stéphane Vial

Trained in Philosophy and Clinical Psychology, Stéphane Vial is Full Professor at the School of Design of the Université du Québec à Montréal. He teaches interaction design as well as the use of artificial intelligence in research, writing, and creative practice.

The author of several books on design and digital technologies, including Design (Que sais-je?), A Short Treatise on Design, and Being and the Screen (MIT Press), he explores how technologies transform the ways we perceive, think, and act. He is also the founder of Sciences du Design (Puf), the first peer-reviewed academic journal in French dedicated exclusively to design research.

A French-Canadian scholar, he first taught and worked in France before continuing his career in Quebec. He also founded Mentallys, a mental health technology company that emerged from his research.
