Keith Liggett

Poet and writer, Keith’s work appears in magazines and newspapers throughout North America. His recently published Island Lake Lodge: the cookbook (Whitecap, 2009) is a Canadian Bestseller and received a Gourmand Award.

He spent much of the two decades after graduating from Grinnell College in Breckenridge Colorado. While his classmates earned graduate degrees, Keith became a fully certified PSIA ski instructor and a mountain guide.

Prior to moving to Fernie, Keith lived in the Columbia River Gorge and served on the steering committee that created the Columbia Gorge Arts Council and served four years on the board after the formation. He played the same role with the Columbia Gorge Racing Association, then serving 6 years on the board. Keith taught for several years at the Beargrass Writers Conference and his Timbers Reading Series in Stevenson, Washington brought award winning authors to the Gorge for a weekly reading and discussion for several winters.

Since moving to Fernie, Keith served on the Arts Station board (four terms). In 2006, he founded the Fernie Writers Conference. After three years of directing the conference, he left to pursue other projects. Currently he is working on another cookbook, a novel and a collection of poetry.
