Nigel Henbest

Professor Nigel Henbest, FRAS, is an award-winning writer and television producer, specialising in space and astronomy. Asteroid 3795 is named "Nigel" in his honour; and he's also a Future Astronaut with Virgin Galactic.

His latest book (Philip’s Stargazing 2023) was published in August 2022.

Born in Manchester, Nigel grew up in Belfast before studying at Leicester University and researching in radio astronomy at Cambridge. Now a prolific science communicator, his books and hundreds of articles have been translated into 17 languages. Nigel's bestselling titles include The New Astronomy, The Space Encyclopedia, Mars, Astronomy Bible, The History of Astronomy and The Universe Explained: A Cosmic Q&A.

Among his many television credits are Black Holes, On Jupiter and How the Universe Works. Nigel has been Astronomy Consultant to New Scientist magazine, Editor of the Journal of the British Astronomical Association and Media Consultant to the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
