Patrick Autréaux

Patrick Autréaux is a French writer.

While studying medicine and cultural anthropology, he initially published poetry and reviews of contemporary art. After practicing as an emergency-room psychiatrist, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to literature. The view of illness as an inner experience informed his first cycle of writing. Since then, he has published several novels (Les Irréguliers and Quand la parole attend la nuit) and a “standing poem” (Le Grand Vivant) produced at the Avignon festival. His work was nominated for the French Prix Décembre and the Prix Femina. He also has been a writer-in-residence at Boston university and a visiting scholar at MIT.
