A software developer by training, Laurent Jayr has worked with financial firms in Geneva and a Swiss private bank. He drew on this experience to write his first two novels, La Faille Ethics (PLF Éditions, 2021) and Rogue Trader (Kubik Éditions, 2023).
Sins to atone for, technology to regulate
These techno-financial thrillers confront readers with the moral ambiguity of technology and the sometimes disastrous, irreversible consequences of the way we use it, despite our best intentions. Whether it is a trading robot in La Faille Ethics or Rogue Trader, or the omnipresence of cameras in our lives and their diversion for surveillance purposes, Laurent Jayr portrays technology as a deceptively promising boon and suggests that its use may need to be regulated, just like finance.
In the meantime, in a world where technology allows them to do almost anything, his protagonists struggle as best they can to obtain the remission of their faults. Far from setting itself up as a court of law, Laurent Jayr’s fiction looks with compassion at the fundamentally fallible nature of human beings.
Laurent Jayr lives in Geneva, where he devotes his time to teaching and writing.
