Emile Servan-Schreiber

I am a cognitive scientist and technology entrepreneur. I cofounded the prediction markets NewsFutures (2000-2010) and Hypermind (2014-now) and deployed collective intelligence technologies in scores of companies around the world. More recently, I cofounded the AI forecasting startup The Forecasting Machine (2024-now). I also teach collective intelligence at IE University (Spain) and UM6P (Morocco). I have collaborated with the U.S. government’s Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, and the Swedish Defense Research Agency on major collective forecasting projects. After earning a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Carnegie Mellon in 1991, I started my career as an artificial intelligence engineer, authored several award-winning scientific CD-ROMs, and advised the OECD on its “brain and learning” program.

I live at the intersection of science and business, with a focus on intelligence in all its forms: natural, artificial and collective. I need to conduct scientific research about it, I need to put it into practice (hence the startups), I need it to have impact, and I need to communicate the results (hence my book and conferences).
