Christine Osborne

Christine Bowker Osborne was born in Sydney, Australia. She began writing about her overseas travels in the mid-sixties and in 1969, received the Pacific Area Travel Association Award for her articles on South-East Asia. The following year, she received the PATA Grand Award for a feature on Burma. Moving to London in 1974, she produced her first book, The Gulf States and Oman featuring economic and social change in the Arab States of the Gulf. Published in 1977, it was reprinted by Taylor Francis in its Middle Easdt History series in 2018. Her other books and travel guides on such diverse places as Seychelles, Pakistan, Jordan, Morocco and Bali were taken up by leading UK publishing houses. Her memoir Travels with My Hat: A lifetime on the Road, received the best non-fiction award from the US based Self Publishing Review in April 2014. In 2018, Christine self published Among Believers: A Pictorial Essay, illustrated with more than 365 color images from her collection of world religions. Other titles are Old Gulf Coast Days, a mini photo series on the Sultanate of Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Her most recent publication Wajid and the Perfect Pearl features illustrated stories of traditional life before the discovery of oil changed Arab society forever. It is recommended for anyone interested in learning about this fascinating part of the world.
