Pierre Massotte

Pierre MASSOTTE, Pr. HDr. Eng.,

Born in Morocco, but with Catalan origins and a French culture, he was already confronted in his youth to the problems of resilience, complexity and decision. After a period of working in the family vineyard, and an activity as High Mountain Guide in the Alps, he get some diploma: Engineer in Automation, then ‘Computer Science’ at INP-Toulouse; and finally a MBA (IAE). He spent some time in EDF R&D – France, then was hired by IBM-France.

He has long worked for IBM in Quality Assurance then Advanced Technologies. He spent several years in some IBM research and development laboratories, in the US. Elected AoT (Academy of Technology), he became scientific director in EMEA Manufacturing, to improve IBM European Manufacturing plants and Development Laboratories competitivity. More than 150 KBS’s, Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence applications were profitably developed during that period of time.

Lately, after a HDR (Higher Doctorate), he joined “Ecole des Mines d'Alès” as Deputy Director within the Nîmes EMA Laboratory. With HEC (Hautes Etudes Commerciales, in Paris) he participated to the implementation of a new pedagogic program intended to develop the entrepreneurship and nurseries in some Schools of Mines.

His research and development topics are related to complexity, self-organization, and issues on business competitiveness and sustainability in global companies. He is the co-author of several books in production systems management. He is now involved, as senior consultant, in various ‘inclusive society’ projects.

Recently, he went back to his vineyard, and is going to publish a new book related to soft wines (VDN – Vins Doux Naturels) and their complexity.
