Vincent Battesti

Vincent Battesti (1970-) was born in Le Havre, France. For nearly twenty-five years he travels and works in North Africa and Middle East. He's social anthropologist at the CNRS (French National Scientific Research Center), he has his office at the Musée de l'Homme, National Museum of Natural History in Paris.

He was visiting scholar at the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University (New York) in 2015-2016. From 2012 to 2015, he was Visiting Scholar at Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies, New York University.

His main fields of research are in Ecological Anthropology or Ethnoecology -- and he's a specialist of oasis ecosystems (working on the relationships to the environment, mainly in Siwa oasis, Egypt and currently in al-‘Ulā oasis, Saudi Arabia) --, and in Urban Anthropology, on urban public spaces in Cairo, Egypt -- and especially on soundscapes, for an anthropology of sounds, and from there for an Sensory Anthropology.
