Pat Payne

Author Patrick Payne, born May 17, 1933 in his parent's home on Ferguson Avenue in St. Louis County, Missouri. A high school graduate, worked as a carpenter and boilermaker before attending Washington University's engineering night school while driving a taxicab during the day and weekends. Then to employment in the construction industry.

His career in construction took he and wife Dot of 70 years, two daughters and threes sons from St. Louis to Chicago, Milwaukee, and Baton Rouge. Then he and wife Dot to San Diego, Oak Harbor, Washington, Houston, Texas and finally back to St. Louis County's High Ridge, Missouri.

Love of the outdoors and a conservationist since early childhood, Payne rescued a fledgling crow and wrote the book "The Summer of Shadow" describing the experience. Served as a volunteer at "The World Bird Sanctuary" in their Re-Hab unit working with hawks, owls and eagles of the world.

He and wife Dot moved to Williams, Arizona in 2016 where again coming out of retirement became a driver for the Arizona Shuttle company. While in Williams wrote and narrated the film "PASSENGER" that was selected and screened in sixteen different film festivals. Payne's writings have been published in newspapers in St. Louis, Baton Rouge, San Diego and Flagstaff. Taking the advice of many who had said you should write a book about your experiences - wrote A Journal of Journeys.

Payne and wife moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2020 to be closer to family.

While hobbies or interests included camping, float fishing Ozark streams such as the Huzzah, Courtois, Meramec and Piney, trout fishing in Wyoming and Montana's Upper Missouri River, hunting, clay target shooting, music, cooking and old friends, it's narrowed considerably today to fewer old friends, music and writing.
