Hello,

People often ask me how I came to write Birthrites. It grew out of a passion and curiosity for rites of passage. I was already beginning to become a celebrant in my own life and community, and wanted to learn more, without being compelled to follow any dogma. So I thought I would go out and find out what other people were doing. At first I thought I would do birth, weddings and funerals all in one book. When I started, I realised that was a life's work! Then I got divorced, remarried and had two children. When my youngest was 6 months old I launched the book - on my 40th birthday.

I live in Oxford, and we sent up a lantern over the city centre in celebration. I liked the fact that this book about empowering ourselves, especially women, and connecting us with our own sources of strength and divinity, was launched from the Vaults of the University Church - right at the heart of the patriarchy! Hee hee hee.

So, at least three more books to write . . . I began researching the next book on coming of age, and got so interested in the work, I started a mentoring circle for girls, and since then have been doing the work rather than writing. But watch this space!

So, it is my honour to hold ceremonies for people in Oxford, Bristol, Bath, Stroud, London and nearby. Weddings, funerals, baby-namings, mother-blessings and more. I also love meet people to talk and teach and learn about these rites of passage. Please get in touch!

I also write songs and play them with a band called Kismet. We released a new album in 2015. See http://www.kismet-music.co.uk
