Sean McHugh was born in Maysville, Kentucky on May 24, 1966 to the late Jack and Jane McHugh. He graduated from Maysville High School in 1984. He received his BA in Art and graduated Cum Laude from Morehead State University in Morehead , Kentucky. After college, Sean moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he accepted the position of head-writer and cartoonist for the Rock-A-Billy Kids Club Newsletter. During this time he also attended a children's writing class instructed by Marcia Jones and Debbie Dadey, the authors of The Bailey School Kids series. In 1995, Sean created the comic strip, Broomsticks, which he submitted to newspaper syndicates and comic book companies. In 2000 Sean moved to Florida. He is currently a caricature artist at Walt Disney World. 2000 was also the year Sean asked his niece, Katie McHugh Parker, a fourth grade teacher at St. Patrick's School in Maysville, Kentucky, to co-author a childrens' book version of his comic strip, Broomsticks. Diversion Press picked up the manuscript in 2009. Broomsticks was released in October of 2010.The second book in the series, Broomsticks-The Halloween Spirit, was released in September of 2012.
