Beatrice Hale is a Scot, living in New Zealand. As a former social worker and anthropologist, she worked with older people, helping develop community care services.
Prior to retirement she completed a doctorate in anthropology, on experiencing care at home. From this she wrote with others, two books: Age of Supported Independence (with Patrick Barrett, Robin Gauld) and Family Care and Social Capital, (with Patrick Barrett and Mary Butler), both of which are published by Springer, Dordrecht.
Writing experience before then was on gardening books, 25 Herb Book, NZ Herb Calendar,(with Elizabeth Hinds) and NZ Pleasure Garden.
Now she wants to write children's and young adult stories. Ice Escape is the second children's book, the first was No Space to Waste, on growing potatoes in rubber tyres.
