When I began to set up this site, the profile offered prompts about what to write such as why do you write what you write? So since that was a subject I could run with, I did. But it really wasn't much of a biography. It was more of a blog. So, I moved it to the discussion topics and decided to start over. But when I read the sample biography; it was all about I lived, I died, I knew a bunch of stuff. Really not my style. I tried but I just couldn't do it. Then another writer told me something. She said that I should think of the biography as an `I love me' wall. So here goes.
I have written ever since I could read and I read early and very well. I think the first time I was ever published was in my early teens maybe even preteen. I think it was a poem in Reader's Digest but I can't be sure that was at least 40 years ago. I was an editing contributor for my annual staff in high school. Then I took a break from writing and began building a family.
In the mid-70s, my husband got a speeding ticket on an air force base in Mississippi. His punishment was to write an article for the base paper about the evils of speeding. As a joke, I wrote a short story titled Disaster in Gnobbleland and my hubby turned is as the article. It was published. It is also included in the 4th book of this series.
Let's see what’s next? Oh yes, in the early 80s I entered a literature competition for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and won 3rd place. I wrote a short instruction manual on how to raise rabbits. Yeah that was fun.
I finally got to go back to school after my children were almost grown. So, I got my GED in 2001. Then, in college I wrote 2 courses in welding that the College still teaches. I got my first associate's degree specializing in fine arts in 2007 when I graduated with honors.
That family that I started while still in high school ended up being quite substantial. I have 7 wonderful children who have given me 13 grandchildren so far. Many of the characters in the Thordon series are based on either my children or on characters they created. I also had the opportunity to share part of my life with 7 terrific step children and a few characters in later books are based on some of them. Now, that I am working on book 9 and more, I have grandchildren and in-laws asking to become characters in the books.
Oh, by the way, there are 8 volumes so far in the Thordon series. Not all of them have been released yet but they have been written. I am working on getting all of them available. And I'm working on more novels for the young and young at heart.
