I am a 76 year old retired and handicapped truck driver. The handicap is the result of a brain injury that I suffered in a truck wreck in 2006 that resulted in a year of therapy. Since I could no longer work I decided to write a book, which I did.
I never had a proper career but have worked since my early teens at a great many jobs all in the lower social and economic strata. Born in 1934 I am a child of the Great Depression, my parents having taken the full brunt of that calamity. They were relatively uneducated but provided a good living for us, my father by driving a truck and my mother by working in a citrus cannery.
I managed to earn a BA in 1964 and was a certified teacher for seven years. After a state-wide teacher's strike in 1966 I went to work on a dredge boat. I got a list of my former employers from the Social Security office about twenty years ago and at that time I had had over one hundred jobs and I have had several since. including city policeman, deputy sheriff, and corrections officer. I have worked in retail sales, been a used car salesman, a groceryman, and cleaned floors at Wal-Mart.
In other words, there is little that I would not do, and though I was smart enough to pursue a convential profession, I had no wish to do so.
I have alays been a reader and from my reading and life experiences I became rather a passive anarchist, identifying religion, politics, and the economy as the three greatest evils in the world.
My book is a utopian novel in which I try to solve all of the problems in the world. One of my target audiences is students, high school and college. From talking to a few of my local readers I feel that many share my views.
