MERCY OFFOR

Mercy Ngozi Offor, PhD, was born to an educationist, Mr. D.C. Nzewi, in Awka, Nigeria in West Africa. She graduated with a doctor of philiosophy degree in Organic Chemistry in 1981 and had her post doctoral research in England (1983-4) as the winner of the prestigious Commonwealth Fellowship award.

Dr Offor began her teaching career in the University of Benin and while teaching organic chemistry to students of science,engineering and medical sciences, she wrote simplified texts to help her students' understanding of the subject. She has a number of national and international publications in the area of organic reactive intermediates and the general area of organic reaction mechanisms which are the areas of her doctoral dissertation. She now teaches at high school level in Chicago Public Schools.

Dr offor is the author of 'Great Legacies, Refreshing Springs" and "Dismantling the ~isms".

In Great Legacies.. , she talked about the unforgettable legacies of her grand father - His Royal Highness,King Solomon 1, his impact on her life and career. She sees his lasting legacy as possessing the potential to impact the entire mankind.

In dismantling the ~isms,she looked at the current issues of climate change from a radical angle, pointing out the irony that the man racing to save the earth does need a saving of his own!
