John L. Orcutt

John Orcutt is the Associate Dean for Faculty Research and a Professor of Law at the University of New Hampshire School of Law in Concord, New Hampshire (USA). Prof. Orcutt, who was selected UNH Law’s “Teacher of the Year” for five straight years (2004-2008), teaches a variety of business law and IP courses. He recently co-founded UNH Law’s International Technology Transfer Institute (ITTI), which is a specialized research and consulting center that seeks to help countries throughout the world foster economic development by improving the flow of publicly-funded innovations from universities and research institutes into the commercial sector. In 2008, Prof. Orcutt was elected chair of New Hampshire's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.

Before coming to UNH Law, Prof. Orcutt worked as a technology investment banker with Robertson Stephens in Silicon Valley and as a capital markets attorney with Shearman & Sterling in its New York, New York and Paris, France offices.

Prof. Orcutt recently wrote a book titled “Shaping China’s Innovation Future: University Technology Transfer in Transition” with his friend and ITTI-colleague Hong Shen. Prof. Orcutt is currently working on his next book, which will be titled “Patent Valuation: Making Better Patent Decisions.”
