Originally a Londoner, Thomas A. (Thom) Ryerson now calls Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, home, and has been actively writing since November of 2005.
Thom has yet to settle on one particular genre. Castle Lake is a ghost story, Travelogue is a family drama, Fun City is science-fiction fantasy, April's Call is a psychological thriller, and Return to Castle Lake is an adventure story. Those Three Words is the spiritual life story of his cousin, Karen Litwin with whom he helped co-write. Carnal Wreckage is a collection of Thom's poetry and lyrics. The Last Girl on Earth is a dystopian adventure set in Florida and Ohio, while The Anatomy of a Mermaid is an alternative history Shakespearean styled tragedy set in Hawaii. A Bigger World is the semi-fictional life story of Thom's great-grandfather Edwy, a Titanic survivor.
Castle Lake Grave Reckoning, the third book in that series, returns the reader to the scares found in the first classic novel.
In 2017 Thom unleashed his 'Thunderbird Recording' series of books, of which all three are finally available here at Kindle.
In 2019 he began to assist Canadian country music legend Larry Mercey with his autobiography, which was published in 2020. Thom's most recent work of fiction was called 'Ruby Diamond - A Life In The Rough,' which was a love letter to the music industry. In 2022 Thom helped his cousin Rockin' Bobby Harris publish his life story at the age of 85. In 2023 Thom published a coffee table book about the history of his grandfather's construction company. This is Thom's most limited work, published in full colour, and is sold out. Unfortunately, it will not be released on Kindle, but the London (ON) Public Library has a copy, as does the National Library of Canada.
Between August 2021 and September 2022 Thom helped his 1st cousin Robert A. Laursen publish seven of his short stories. In September 2024 the short stories were collected with three new short stories in Robert's first anthology novel, 'Ten.' Robert's second novel, 'Downfall,' was published in February 2026.
Tom's writing influences include Robin Cook, Ian Fleming, Thomas Tryon, E.L. Doctorow, Harold Robbins, Albert Goldman, O.T. Nelson, John Jakes, and Judy Blume. Tom's early writing was initially influenced by film and TV, with shows in the horror and science fiction genre. TV shows such as Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Space: 1999, and Circle of Fear, and films such as Star Wars, Alien, Black Christmas, and Carrie. At the age of 15, he began to develop ideas of his own, and thought he'd like to make films for a living. Beginning in 1980, he attempted to write synopsis's for his original stories; 'The Sand Burners,' 'Cop,' 'Knossos: The Last Years,' and 'Fun City.'
For 2026 Thom will be publishing 'Starstruck,' which is the life story of Marilynne Caswell, 1934 - 2021, a country music fan who assisted Thom with his three Thunderbird Books. This will be released on Kindle and include many photos and an index.
For 2027 Thom has three books planned; 'Altadore: A Legacy in Honour,' a black & white coffee table book about the Altadore Estate based in Woodstock from 1832 to 1957, 'The Car in the Ravine,' which is a coming-of-age story from Thom's youth with hues of an eerie ghost story, and 'COP,' finally after 47 years of fermenting, Thom's second science-fiction novel.
