David Smiley

Born to code, David Smiley is a lead software engineer at MITRE specializing in search, web development, and geospatial. David routinely consults on search activities within MITRE and its sponsors. David also works part-time as a Solr consultant for OpenSource Connections and privately. David has been involved with the Lucene / Solr project for some time and was promoted to committer status in February 2012 for his contributions and involvement. His most visible role in the community is as the principal author of "Apache Solr 3 Enterprise Search Server" published by PACKT in 2011, an update to the first edition published in 2009. He's also known for his open-source geohash based Solr spatial work presented at the first Lucene Revolution in 2010 and subsequently. Within MITRE, he occasionally develops and teaches short training classes on Solr.
