Barbara Warholic

Barbara focused on sewing, quilting, and other crafts for many years. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina her interest turned to pottery (North Carolina has a rich pottery history). She was drawn to pottery because of its organic nature; clay from the earth, formed, and fired. She was a student of several nationally recognized potters, but with no room for a studio, she put pottery on hold.

After trying a sewing technique called coiled cording, it occurred to Barbara how similar this method was to making coiled pottery. This is how her book "Sewing Pottery by Machine" came to be. Barbara teaches a technique that blends her love of sewing with her love of pottery.

You're a fresh breath of air. I have to say that it's been a really long time since I've read a sewing book that is easy to understand and visualize. Your pottery is beautiful. But it's not only that. I like the layout of your book. I like that there are simple projects that starters wouldn't shy away, yet there are also the more difficult ones that would catch the more adventurous souls. Your instructions are clear and to the point. Your book is truly a fast read. You don't waste time, yet you don't rush through instructions skipping some 22 steps.

I have already given a test drive and I like what I see. I am looking forward to my first pot soon and I actually feel that you're standing right there with me to show me how it's done.

Thank you for sharing your techniques and creativity for me to see (I know it's not just for me, but your book comes across as very personal and very personable and so it feels like you wrote it for me).
