New Book Chronicles Photojournalist’s Award-winning Career

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – When Phil Giriodi was just a boy, he knew exactly what he wanted to do—he wanted to get out of his small town of Angels Camp, California and become a photojournalist, traveling the world and experiencing everything he could. And he did just that.

Now retired in Scottsdale, Arizona, Giriodi recounts his prolific career in his new memoir, “Breakfast in Paris, Lunch in Rome, Dinner in London: Reflections in the eye of a CBS, NBC, ABC Photojournalist.” He shares the opportunities his career afforded him to explore volcanoes, stand in waste deep snow on the highest mountain peak, swim with dolphins, dive with whales, witness drug busts, and even spend time with some major celebrities, presidents, and the pope.

But it wasn’t all fun and exciting, he says. The book also includes moments of tragedy, frightening brushes with natural disasters, and eye-opening walks with the less fortunate. In each vignette, readers will see the world through the eyes of a multiple award-winning photojournalist who lived his dream.

Giriodi spent fifty years as a photojournalist, many of which were spent with CBS Network News and later years with his own video production company in Hawaii. He was awarded thirty-two national and international awards for his work as well as the coveted Emmy for Individual Achievement.
