For more three decades Bill van Steenis has been in the executive search business placing men and women into positions of leadership around the globe. Mr. van Steenis has had a very successful career working with the senior leadership of top companies. He is a CPA and spent time in both the Internal Revenue Service as an expert witness for the United States Attorney's office and as a Revenue Agent. After leaving the IRS Bill joined a public accounting firm as a Tax Supervisor. It was the worst job he had ever had and he was fired the day after tax season. Bill learned a valuable lesson about the world of employment through this experience. He learned that companies hire employees to solve the company's problems and if you as a potential employee can solve their problem they may decide to hire you and solve yours.
Bill decided not to go back into accounting but rather to work in the executive search industry placing accounting professionals into companies. He worked for an international firm for more than two years learning the search business before starting ProSource Executive Search, Inc in Holland, Michigan. Bill has been heavily involved in conducting searches in the automotive and industrial manufacturing industries. He has also recruited senior executives for the health care industry and some service companies as well. Bill also expanded his business beyond accounting and began placing people in positions of leadership in a wide range of disciplines including human resources, general management, sales and marketing, quality and purchasing.
As the economy began to slide in 2008 Bill began receiving calls from people he had placed over the years saying that they had suddenly lost their jobs. They wondered if Bill had something that would fit their experience but there were no jobs to be had. Bill decided to try to help by writing his first book, "The ReExamined Life: What's possible after job loss."
As he was conducting workshops he met many college students and graduates that told him this information was new to them. They urged him to share his message about how the employment world works with universities. Bill wrote "In Demand: How To Get Hired, Develop A Career And Always Be Successful" for the college market and it has been a huge success. Bill has become a sought after speaker at colleges, universities, companies and chambers of commerce speaking on careers and leadership.
