Torrey A. Creed

Torrey A. Creed, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, where she directs the Beck Community Initiative, a program of implementation delivery and research through a large-scale academic-public partnership with the City of Philadelphia and other behavioral health systems. Her research combines the state of the science in CBT for behavioral health concerns with an innovative approach to the pressing public health need for access to EBPs in real-world settings. She joined the faculty of the Aaron T. Beck Psychopathology Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008, where she has developed a program of implementation science and training to bring evidence based practice to underserved, inner-city, low-income consumers in the public mental health arena. This program, one of the largest academic-community implementation partnerships in the United States, has also resulted in a rich data set housed in a sophisticated data management system, creating a platform for empirical evaluation of patient, therapist, agency, and network-level outcomes. Dr. Creed is also a member of the Teaching Faculty of the Beck Institute, traveling nationally and internationally to lecture about the implementation and practice of CBT in real-world settings. In addition to more than 40 professional papers, she is the lead author of Cognitive Therapy for Adolescents in School Settings (Creed, Reisweber, & Beck, 2011), which is being used as a guide for school-based mental health services in Philadelphia and other public school districts. Dr. Creed’s primary research interests are the effective dissemination and implementation of CBT in community care, and the integration of CBT with principles of recovery.
