I grew up near Swarthmore, PA and wanted to be a cancer researcher ever since I was 13-years old. I am cancer research scientist turned writer (Google: Michael Alexander and T cells or melanoma). Graduated from Villanova University as a General Science Major and then from the University of Pennsylvania with a PhD in Immunology. Published numerous scientific articles about cancer during my 30 years of being a cancer researcher. I initially published a book called, "Immune-based Cancer Treatment: The T Lymphocyte Response." The book is published by Science Publishers, Enfield, NH, and is targeted at college/med school students and lay readers of magazines such as Scientific American. The information is also directed at cancer patients because of a new type of cancer treatment called immunotherapy, which is related to the T-cell immune system and highlighted in the book. In addition, my second book on immunity to cancer has been published and called, "The Functional and Translational Immunology of Regulatory T Cells (Tregs), the Anti- Tumor T Cell Response, and Cancer" by Nova Scientific Publishers. This book focuses on the T cell regulatory system, which often perceives the anti-cancer T cell response as an autoimmune response and then shuts it down. This book is unique because it describes the intracellular biochemical pathways that dictate the behavior of the cells involved in this serious problem, which often leads to the establishment of cancer. My latest book about cancer is called, "Surviving Cancer and Its Treatment" and is a multidisciplinary examination of what happens to people once they have survived the disease. Another aspect of my cancer writing experience will have to do with fiction. To that end I have published the first book in a series of narrative fiction novels about cancer. This novel is called FreeLife and is about the discovery of the ultimate cure for cancer in the future that will be given away for free. The previous books about cancer immunity and cancer patients, as well as FreeLife, and several short stories about cancer patients are currently on sale here at Amazon. com.
Have recently received a Liberal Arts Masters Degree from Widener University and in addition to my PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Immunology, I hope to continue to write books about cancer to inform people about this complex disease.
