Dave Hamilton

Dave Hamilton is the author of seven books, including the Amazon Top Ten hit Wild Ruins, The Weird Guide and The Self-Sufficientish Bible, which saw him interviewed by John Humphries on the Today programme.

His guidebooks are extensively researched; he has travelled the length and breadth of Britain in search of unusual places. His practical "how-to" guides, such as his foraging tome, Where the Wild Things Grow, and The Self-Sufficientish Bible, are from lived experience and experiments with urban self-sufficiency.

As a freelance journalist, Dave's contributions span a wide range, from underground anarchist fanzines and in-flight magazines to Gardeners' World and The Guardian. He currently writes for BBC Countryfile, Walk Magazine, and Wildbounds.

Dave went to the same school as comedian Alan Carr. He is dyslexic, has poor working memory, and no sense of direction, unusual traits for someone who works as a travel-writer!

Dave lives with his two sons in Somerset.
