Dr. Tim Chapin is Chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at The Florida State University. He earned a Bachelors in Sociology from Emory University, a Master of City Planning degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Urban Design and Planning from the University of Washington.
Chapin's areas of expertise include Growth Management and Comprehensive Planning, Urban Redevelopment and Revitalization, and Urban Economic Development. He has published over twenty peer-reveiwed articles, ten book chapters, and twenty-five reports for planning clients, and secured over $3 million in outside funding to support his work.
In 2012 he edited a special issue of the Journal of the American Planning Association, the flagship journal for the field, on sprawl and smart growth. He was chief contributor and lead editor of Growth Management in Florida: Planning for Paradise published by Ashgate Press (2007) and Growth Management and Public Land Acquisition: Balancing Conservation and Development also published by Ashgate Press (2011).
