James Collett

A native West Texan, Jim has researched a wide variety of historical topics. He also is an amateur archaeologist who has wandered across much of this vast area of the state, visiting places seldom seem by more than a few lucky souls. For years, he wrote a regular column for the Iraan Archaeological Society. He has been translating those columns into blogs on his website, In Search of Remembered Earth: Travels in Time and Space Across the West Texas Landscape.

Jim served as the Editor of the Permian Historical Society Annual for the past several years and is also President of the Midland Historical Society.

Jim recently completed a book with History Press on the Pecos River in Texas. Using research and his personal experiences, JIm has crafted a collection of interesting stories ranging from prehistoric times to present-day events, including the annual gathering at Horsehead Crossing. Ancient accounts in stone, desperados and lawmen, battles, booms, and busts fill the pages of this book. Pick up your copy of True Tales, Legends, and Lore of the Pecos River to join Jim on a jouirney through time along this storied river.
