Charlette Mikulka is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with three decades of professional experience. She earned her masters degree from Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work in 1976 and has engaged in child protective services, family life education and psychotherapy with adolescents and adults. She maintains a full time private practice serving individuals, couples and families.
Charlette is a certified specialist in practicing EMDR, a clinically and research-validated treatment for healing the psychological trauma which is at the root of most emotional, physical, behavioral and relational problems. Charlette participates in ongoing training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a highly respected and effective approach to helping couples and families build secure emotional bonds. Insecure attachment bonds with parents and adult partners are the other major source of human dysfunction.
Charlette is an avid learner, lover of life, compassionate seasoned therapist and dynamic speaker. As the author and publisher of Peace in the Heart and Home she has won three different national book awards in the categories of personal growth, family and relationships and parenting. Peace in the Heart and Home is the culmination of her thirty year personal and professional quest to understand what it takes to thrive in mind, body, spirit, relationships and life. Her book has been highly endorsed by authorities in the fields of stress, mental health, neuroscience, mind-body health, trauma, couple and family therapy and spirituality.
In addition to extensive professional training and reading, Charlette's personal experience has contributed greatly to the knowledge and wisdom contained in Peace in the Heart and Home. She has reflected deeply on her emotional and relational experiences within her family of origin and adult family. Like everyone else, Charlette has had to learn many things through mistakes and hindsight. But she has continually sought to recognize her misguided actions and worked hard to integrate into her life and relationships all that she has learned about what is truly effective in bringing about peace, harmony and joy.
In 2011 Charlette and her husband Joe marked forty years together. It is a relationship not just of longevity but of ever evolving maturity and fulfillment. They have two sons, Michael, 27 and Christopher, 21. As well as enjoying her family, her profession and learning, Charlette loves being with friends, appreciating and photographing nature and architecture, walking, biking, quilting, cooking, eating, singing, and savoring others' creativity. At age sixty, Charlette maintains a youthful spirit, energy, curiosity and passion for being alive.
