Dick Atkins

Dick Atkins has been producing and writing movies and television for many years, first as Vice President of Production for Telecom Entertainment (a subsidiary of the advertising agency D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles) and then for his own companies, A-Films and Atkins Pictures Inc. He was producer of the feature films Asunder in Virginia, and Forced March (which he also wrote) in Hungary, in addition to serving as executive producer or producer on numerous television movies for network and syndication, a health & lifestyle cable series, three documentaries, an original eight-part video series and pilots for syndication and cable. He also has written three original theatrical shows for teenage performers, and directed many hours of documentary footage in Mongolia with the Dalai Lama and Richard Gere.

One of his current projects, The Dinner Set Gang (www.dinnersetgang.com), was profiled on both CBS/60 Minutes (story nominated for an Emmy) and Court TV. He has worked with many stars, including Kiefer Sutherland, Johnny Cash, Andy Griffith, Richard Gere, Blair Underwood, Angela Lansbury, Lee Remick, Marsha Mason, Mary Steenburgen, Ron Silver, Gregory Harrison, Kenny Rogers and Chris Sarandon, and with award-winning directors and writers.

Prior to A-Films and Telecom, he was in charge of Daytime Programming for Benton & Bowles advertising in New York (now DMB&B), where he was responsible for overseeing three daytime "soaps" owned by Procter & Gamble (Another World and Texas on NBC & Edge of Night on ABC), and served as Manager of Program Development for Benton & Bowles, where he worked with clients including Procter & Gamble and General Foods in overseeing the development and production of a dozen movies and specials for television. He has served as a programming and production consultant for CBS/60 Minutes, King World Productions, Hearst Entertainment, Whittle Communications, DMB&B, and Le Quartier Latin of Paris.

Mr. Atkins also designed computer budgeting and accounting software that have been used on more than twenty-five motion pictures and mini-series, and licensed to a dozen movie production companies and one of the industry's largest movie payroll companies. He is the author of the book Method To The Madness (Hollywood Explained), a non-fiction look at the industry.
