Stanley Morris Gully

Dr. Stan Gully is a member of the faculty in the Department of Human Resource Management in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University. Stan earned his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Michigan State University in 1997. He has taught courses at the undergraduate, Master’s, Ph.D., and Executive Master’s level covering content such as organizational learning and innovation, recruiting and staffing, human resource management, organizational behavior, performance management, training and development, data analysis, and leadership. He has taught using traditional and hybrid technologies in the United States, Singapore, and Indonesia. He has won teaching awards at both Michigan State University and Rutgers University.

Stan has authored or presented over 90 papers, research articles, and book chapters on a variety of topics. His work has appeared in Research in Personnel and Human Resources Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Research Methods, Advances in Interdisciplinary Studies of Work Teams, among other outlets. His co-authored paper on goal orientation and training was the recipient of a research award from the American Society for Training and Development. Stan has served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Applied Psychology, top journals in the profession. He was the winner of a reviewer award from the Journal of Management and he previously was co-editor of the Academy of Management Research Methods Division Newsletter. He has co-authored textbooks on Strategic Staffing and Organizational Behavior and is a co-author of the series published by the Society for Human Resource Management entitled Staffing Strategically. He is currently co-editor of the Human Resource and Organizational Behavior collection for Business Expert Press.

Stan has consulted with various Fortune 50 companies as well a number of other types of organizations, including small businesses and U.S. state and federal governmental entities. Stan has provided insights to businesses in pharmaceutical, educational, retail sales, consumer products, healthcare, and equipment rental industries. His applied work includes, but is not limited to, management at UPS, assessment of the effectiveness of an employer branding initiative, improvement of an employee selection system, evaluation of predictors of pharmaceutical salesperson effectiveness, evaluation of recruiting source effectiveness, design of various leadership development programs, and implementation of a multi-source feedback system. His research interests include strategic recruiting & staffing, leadership & team effectiveness, wellness, training & development, and organizational learning. Dr. Gully is currently working on research to evaluate the impact of current economic trends on global HR systems.
