Psychologists don’t understand anything about real life.

“How you can be more YOURSELF in your job as well as in your private life”, that’s what this new blog is all about.

And besides, the above header is a frequent judgment about members of my profession. However, my story is a completely different one. My personal and professional career had quite some turn of events.

I learned the job as a bank clerk and worked in the loan department of a notable bank in Germany for 1½ years. Two years later I was hired as an operator at IBM, Frankfurt. Computers were not yet invented so I worked on an IBM 360. After this I became a copy writer in an advertising agency also in Frankfurt.

Then I tried to make a living as an insurance agent. I was pretty good at it but I was not content. In all these years what I really wanted was to study psychology but had no admission to that.

Thus I decided to get my high school diploma at a specific school in Nuremberg. That was rather hard. At the age of 26 I found myself translating Caesars second Gallic War. But I did it.

Unfortunately the achieved average mark was not good enough to be admitted to psychology, I once more had to wait. The journey took me to a kibbutz in Israel where I worked for one year. There I harvested millions of oranges, killed chickens, built wooden huts — and waited for my place at university.

I finished the studies of psychology quickly, because I was already a little older. During that time I successfully completed three psychological trainings: transactional analysis, hypnotherapy according to Milton Erickson as well as family therapy.

After my studies I established a private practice and co-founded the European Branch of the HAKOMI INSTITUTE with friends. I spent twenty years as a teacher and co-leader there.

I’ve been working with people for over 30 years now. Conducting seminars for companies and as a coach. I was born in 1948, am married and have two children.
