Stefan Rinke

Stefan Rinke is a German historian. He focuses on the history of Latin America, which he teaches at the Latin America Institute and the Friedrich Meinecke Institute at Freie Universität Berlin. He has published numerous books on topics ranging from Columbus to contemporary history, many of which have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, English, and Turkish. In 2013-2015, he was an Einstein Research Fellow. In 2017, he was honored with the Premio Alzate from the Mexican Academy of Sciences and CONACYT. In the same year, he received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Argentina and in 2025 an honorary professorship from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile. Rinke is corresponding member of the academies of history in Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Spain.
