Werner Zillig

Werner Zillig, born 1949 in Haßlach bei Kronach (today: Stockheim, district of Haßlach). Linguist and science fiction author between 1980 and 1990. With an ambivalent relationship to science fiction. Favorite author in this genre: Kurt Vonnegut. Favorite book: Walter M. Miller, "A Canticle for Leibowitz."

Author's wish: That some Thomas Mann admirers read my story "The New Fragrance" ("Der neue Duft". Not translated.)

Most important theses about science fiction: Nothing can really be foreseen! It is ridiculous that in SF movies the computers always resemble the models that exist at the moment. And, as an SF author from Vienna once remarked: In earlier SF publications, in the preview of the year 3010, when photos are taken, a film is always inserted into the camera. The former cult film "2001 - A Space Odyssey" by Stanley Kubrick seems today, if one disregards the bold year, in some parts like an unintentional parody of the time around 1970. (Sorry, Stanley! I really like you!)
