George J. Brooke

I taught Biblical Studies at the University of Manchester from 1984 until 2016. From 1998 until 2016 I was the seventh Rylands Professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis, a professorial chair that was established in 1904. I am now Rylands Professor Emeritus. I spend most of my spare time studying the Dead Sea Scrolls and have edited fragments for the Israel Antiquities Authority. I am concerned to spread suitable ideas about the importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls for the study of Judaism two thousand years ago and have written both popular and technical works to that end.
