Sabina Naber

Sabina Naber studied a combination of theatre studies, German language and literature, history and philosophy in Vienna. She worked as a director, journalist and screenwriter.

Her first crime novel with the Viennese inspector Maria Kouba was published by Rotbuch in 2002; five more volumes followed with this inspector, for whom the Berlin Tagesspiegel recommended Sabina Naber for admission to the "neofeminist club tart noir".

In 2013 she started a second series at Gmeiner around the Mayer & Katz team, whose main focus is on sports. What kind of murder would a marathon runner commit, for example?

Since 2019, she has been delving deep into the 1960s with political crime novels, bringing to life the oscillation of this society between an unresolved (Nazi) past and the colourful, dazzling dawn of a future marked by a belief in progress (Emons-Verlag).

She also writes short stories and edits anthologies.

Awards:

2007: Friedrich Glauser Prize for the best short story ("Peter in St. Paul" in: "Mörderisch unterwegs", Milena-Verlag).

2013: Nomination for the Leo Perutz Prize for "Marathonduell" (Gmeiner-Verlag).

2021: Nomination for the Leo Perutz Prize for "Leopoldstadt" (Emons-Verlag).

She is co-founder and director (2005 to 2008) of the Austrian platform www.krimiautoren.at; from 2010 to 2013 one of three spokespersons of the syndicate (www.das-syndikat.com).

Sabina Naber has also been active as a photo artist for several years.
