Alan MacDonald is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner who has helped individuals become successful investors for more than 20 years. An entrepreneur with a strong sense of community stewardship, Alan has been involved with Citizen Advocacy for 10 years and serves on the advisory Board of the United Way. He lives in Ottawa with his wife, Cathy, and two children, Alex and Scott.
The ideas and concepts behind the Copperjar System came from Alan and co-author Paul's own personal experiences and challenges. Early in Alan's career he observed that he, and many financial planners, were relatively poor stewards of their own financial lives. Unconsciously spending more than they made, relying on credit, and often not planning for their own futures. The irony of investment professionals who were spenders - advising savers, was not lost on Alan. He resolved to find a system that would cut through the complexity of personal finance. What he needed was an "easy to stick to" discipline that could keep him and others from becoming stressed and over extended.
Alan, many years ago, discovered is that no such "easy to stick to" system existed. The only way to fix the problem was to make a system; so Paul and Alan created the Copperjar System. It saved Alan's fiscal bacon; it can work for you too.
