Thomas A. Tomsick, M.D. was bullpen and batting practice catcher for the Cleveland Indians from 1964-66, while attending John Carroll University. Strike Three! tells the story of not only the top strikeout staff in the AL, but the bullpen and batting practice catcher job as it has evolved, and also the author's own 3 swings at a career in baseball. He left the Tribe to attend St. Louis University School of Medicine.
He has been a faculty member of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine since 1976 and Director of Neuroradiology from 1993-2011. Tomsick received the Samuel Kaplan Visionary Award for Research in Cardiovascular Disease for his work in stroke from the Cincinnati Divison of the American Heart Association. He has been named one of the Best Doctors in America 2001-present. His research has included participation in multiple studies of methods and devices for treatment of blood vessel problems of the brain, and received the Outstanding Research Award from the American Society of Neuroradiology in 2018. Tomsick authored/co-authored over 200 manuscripts and chapters. He co-authored and edited the book Carotid Cavernous Fistula, Digital Educational Publishing. He is a member of The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), baseball enthusiasts dedicated to researching all facets of the game, and has presented posters on the effects of foul territory on strikeouts at local (Dayton, Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati), and national SABR meetings (40 and 41).
